Tuesday April 4, 2023:
The Tuesday Bird Walk went to the Shelly Road side of the Englishman
River Estuary Parksville. The weather was cloudy with sunny breaks, and a cool
6 C. A few highlights from the walk were, seeing about 20 Snow Geese lift off from
the Parksville Community Park and fly around, a Peregrine Falcon do a fly by
providing a great view and watching two Red-breasted Sapsuckers working the
trees.
10 birders saw and heard the following 49 species.

Monday April 3, 2023:
A male Rufous Hummingbird was seen at Legacy Marsh in upper Lantzville.
Sunday April 2, 2023:
The Sunday Bird Walk went to Nanoose Bay
Estuary at the end of Nanoose Beach Road. The weather was sunny, 6C and the
winds were calm. Some highlights from the walk were a pair of Greater
Yellowlegs that were feeding along the beach. A Killdeer that was hunkered down
in the grasses as though sitting on a nest, and a pair of Red Crossbills that
landed in a tree right in front of us.

Yellow-rumped Warbler and Rufous Hummingbird were seen in a backyard on Aulds Road
in Lantzville.

The Backyard Bird Walks
Our bird walks go out Sunday mornings in Nanaimo and Tuesday mornings in
Parksville and Qualicum Beach area, are easy walks that go for two to three
hours (back for lunch is the plan). Bring binoculars and a field guide. The
walks are weather pending.

The Tuesday Bird Walk will be going to French Creek – Columbia Beach.
Meet directly at the parking area on Admiral Tryon Blvd, off Columbia Drive and Hwy 19A, French Creek, at 9:00 am. Weather cooperating.
The Sunday Bird Walk, April 9, 2023
This week’s Sunday Bird Walk is cancelled for the Easter Long Weekend.
For cancelled bird walks due to weather, please check The Backyard blog at www.thebirdstore.blogspot.com on the day of the bird walk. A notice will be up before 8:00am if there is a cancelation.
