Parksville/Qualicum Beach Tuesday bird walk, February 18, 2014

The Tuesday bird walk went to the Little Qualicum River Estuary in Qualicum Beach. The morning was windy with rain showers all morning. A very large flock of Black Turnstones were bathing along the gravel bar off the viewing platform. Pacific Loons, Common Loons, Horned Grebes and Red-necked Grebes were further offshore. Greater Scaup, Surf Scoters, White-winged Scoters and  lack Scoters formed a huge flock near the gravel bar at the mouth of the river. California Gulls, Thayer's Gulls, a Herring Gull and Glaucous-winged Gulls were roosting in the fresh water of the river.
